Ward councillor concerned about large mud pool on Cactus Road in Kyalami

KYALAMI – A large mud hole has become an area of concern for motorist travelling along Catus Road.

Ward 94 councillor David Foley has warned residents to drive carefully along Cactus Road as it contains a large pool of mud.

Foley said that the mud pool, which is located on the corner of Maple and Cactus roads, stems from a project done by Johannesburg Water in the area which has not been reinstated correctly. “We are now left with a massive soft sand area where water has collected and cars cannot traverse effectively. I’ve received a number of reports of cars getting stuck in the area.

“Residents are not very happy because many times others have had to pull people out when they get stuck.”

Foley said that the ongoing Joburg Water project along with the downpour from the rain created the pool on the road. “This is what we’ve got, we’ve got a dangerous road that people cannot drive on.”

He added that he has escalated the issue to Johannesburg Road Agency (JRA) in order for them to fix the road either by compacting the road or diverting the water flow that builds up.

JRA spokesperson Zoleka Jika said that the issue has been escalated and they are awaiting budget confirmation before they can do any work on the road.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Water Isaac Dhludhlu said that they haven’t established which contractor is currently conducting work on Cactus Road. Dhludhlu added, “However if they are doing Joburg Waterwork, they will stick to the scope of the work.”
