Forty Days Without Shoes helps give back to a Rabie Ridge school

RABIE RIDGE – The #40dayswithoutshoes campaign gave back by donating 26 shoes to Dr Mathole Motshekga Primary School.


Learners from Dr Mathole Motshekga Primary School in Rabie Ridge received a special donation of shoes.

The donation was made possible through the efforts of #40dayswithoutshoes, a social media-driven campaign that runs annually from January to February where community members raise funds by going without shoes for 40 days.

The individuals involved in the campaign handed over the shoes to the school on 28 February.

Organiser for the donation Themba Mbathane said, “We use social media to mobilise the community to assist and make sure that children from underprivileged communities have shoes.

“Through the campaign, we want to ensure that our kids have a comfortable schooling experience through a comfortable pair of shoes.”

Principal at Dr Mathole Motshekga Primary School, Tabitha Kulima, said that they received an incredible 26 pairs of shoes from the campaign. “I’m very happy about this donation,” Kulima said.

“We have so many children in our school who go without shoes for the year, and this donation will definitely boost their confidence in the classroom. Many times we have children who have broken or no shoes in the rain and can’t miss school due to sickness.

“This will definitely help our children moving forward. I want to thank the donors for their kind gesture and hope that they are able to change the lives of many more children.”
