Cluny Farm Centre in Midrand receives a heartfelt donation

VORNA VALLEY – The Cluny Farm Centre received a special donation from SuperSPAR Vorna Valley.

A local supermarket made a special donation to Cluny Farm Centre on 5 March.

Administration manager at the SuperSPAR Vorna Valley, Lucia Odendal said, “In February, the entire SPAR group held a ‘How big is your heart’ campaign where we chose a charity as a valentine.”

The store engaged with customers to donate goods during their purchases. Odendal said that the total amount for the goods collected was matched in cash by the store. The store chose to donate all the goods to Cluny Farm Centre.

Cluny Farm is an organisation established in 1962 that provides a home, care and work for adults with intellectual disabilities. General manager at the organisation, Sharon Theron, said, “The model that Cluny Farm is based on is a working farm with the people living there also working there and growing to their full potential. They work and socialise to create a very safe community.”

Odendal added that the group chose the organisation because of the important work that they do. “Government can’t help always and we know that a community can assist in their work.

“The importance of their work is that they look after adults with intellectually disability which there isn’t a lot of. They keep them busy, creative and safe.”

The store was able to raise R3 792.21 worth of donations in goods which the store matched in cash. Theron concluded, “We are very grateful for this donation. People are all at a difficult time financially and to know that their care is amazing… It’s so heartwarming to us to know that somebody cares.”
