Visions of Joy aims to change the lives of the less fortunate in Midrand

MIDRAND – Visions of Joy would love your assistance in helping the New Jerusalem Home in Midrand and the Philisa Isizwe Foundation in Diepsloot.

A local non-government organisation uplifting the lives of community members through long-lasting projects is appealing to community members to take part in changing the lives of the less fortunate in Midrand and Diepsloot.

Visions of Joy was established by eight members who saw the importance of helping others. Co-founder Irisha Luhanga said, “They turned a commitment to giving back into an effective social activism platform that directly impacts the lives of hundreds of children and young adults in Johannesburg.”

As part of extending their impact and footprint in the Johannesburg area, currently, Visions of Joy supports the New Jerusalem Children’s Home in Midrand, The Village Safe Haven in Buccleuch and the Philisa Isizwe Foundation in Diepsloot and are appealing for community members to come forward and lend a hand.

Luhanga said they would love for community members to help New Jerusalem Children’s Home by funding uniforms and books.

The orphanage has opened a Montessori school to give the learners some of the best education available whilst also allowing those from the community to attend too.

“Food, and getting funding to subsidise the kids to attend the school, their big projects is the solar project to reduce electricity usage at the home so funds toward that would also be appreciated,” she added.

Luhanga said they want to give the kids opportunities in the workplace after they leave school and motivate them, bursaries to study at university and to get the kids to have a relationship with the outside world.

Talking about their Diepsloot project, Luhanga said that they have already bought two containers, therefore a definite need is donation of books and food. “We would love a business to adopt, train and others supply Wi-Fi, or data at the container, then also we need food and uniforms for the kids.

“It is not just about the money, people can help people by giving of their time (playing with the kids) – not necessarily donating cash, rather they go buy food, uniforms or books.”
