TAKE NOTE: Road works on Allandale Road cause delays

MIDRAND – The Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport has announced that they will undertake a three-month-long rehabilitation project on the road.

Road works on Allandale Road in Kyalami are causing traffic delays in both directions.

The road has been plagued by potholes, causing many road-users to share their frustrations on social media.

The Gauteng MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo has announced on 4 March that there is a planned closure of Allandale Road heading towards Kyalami, Midrand in order to conduct road works.

Mamabolo said, “Due to the persistent challenges with the road, the department took a decision to conduct tests and assessments to determine the causes of deterioration.”

He explained that their studies had shown that there is water and rock formation underground which has affected the quality of the road. This is why they have decided to do a complete overhaul of the road.

From 16 March, the road will be closed. The closure is expected to last three months. Motorists have been advised to use alternative routes.

Mamabolo added that they are aware of the inconvenience this will cause, however, the safety of motorists is their main priority.

Motorists and residents responded to the announcement on Twitter with already some roadworks underway in some parts of the road.
