Cashbuild gives back to six schools in Midrand

MIDRAND – The Cashbuild Ebony Park store was abuzz as they handed out building material vouchers to local schools.

Building material retailer Cashbuild awarded six schools in Ebony Park with vouchers to improve and repair their schools as part of their Art-at-Heart competition.

The competition saw learners from each school create and submit artwork that will be on display in the Cashbuild Ebony Park store for the next six years. Building material vouchers worth R15 000 each were awarded to Kaalfontein, Sedi-Laka, Ebony Park, Rebonwe and Nehemiah primary schools, and Khayalami Independent School on 13 February.

The principal of Kaalfontein Primary School, Emmanuel Mohale said they have a few plans for how to best use their voucher. “We have some major plumbing repairs to do on all our toilet facilities as we need to replace toilet seats, pipes, taps, hand basins and toilet bowls,” he said.

“Also, in the classrooms, there are window frames that are broken and need fixing, and we need to replace quite a few door locks as well.”

The principal of Sedi-Laka Primary School, Mzno Mazwai said, “Our assembly court is in need of some maintenance as there are quite a few holes in the cement which makes walking, sitting or standing quite unpleasant for staff and learners. We would like to fill these holes with cement and do some paving.

“Once that is done, we would also like to build a shelter over the assembly area so that the learners will be able to stand outside even when the weather is bad.”

Khayalami Independent School staff member, Solomon Maleeye, said, “We are so grateful to Cashbuild because now we can finally get around to paving the outside area of most of our classrooms. We will also be painting and repairing the ceilings of some of the rooms.”
