Smiles abound at The Riders Series second leg at Ezethu

BLUE HILLS – The Riders Series once again proves a hit at Ezethu, with showjumpers proving their skill in 80cm to 1.20m jumps.

The competition was fierce but smiles abounded and friendships held true at the second leg of The Riders Series at Ezethu.

The Blue Hills stables saw riders of all ages take to the arena for an exciting graded showjumping show on 22 and 23 February that included heights from 80cm to 1.20m.

Every competitor cheered each other when it was their turn, and all clear rounds drew applause from the crowd in attendance.

There was rain on the weekend but it did not dampen the spirits of the riders, nor the spectators who watched on from the covered stands.

“I thought we were quite lucky with the weather. There were a few downpours but then the sun would come out and it was sunny for the most part,” said Ezethu’s Esla du Plessis.

“My highlight was that we handed out teddy bears to the winners of the child classes and that so many of our adults moved up a grade to compete at higher jumps.”

Du Plessis added that the event had a full number of entries for just about every category and even had to stop accepting entries when they became full. “Often the focus in showjumping is on the 1.30m and higher jumps so it was good to see this event so well-supported.”

She promised that the third leg, which takes place on 14 and 15 March, will again include a professionally-built course, top-class judges and fantastic facilities.

There will be a total of eight legs of The Riders Series followed by a final round and awards day.
