Suspects involved in shooting in New Road have been caught

MIDRAND – Three suspects linked to the fatal New Road shooting have been arrested following a rigorous manhunt.


The Midrand police arrested the three suspects allegedly involved in the New Road shooting that left one dead on 29 January.

The shooting occurred when a Black SUV followed the victims from the N1 highway to the New Road off-ramp and fired three shots. The victim’s car crashed into a Chevron along New Road. One victim was wounded in the mouth, airlifted to Milpark Hospital and later died from the wounds sustained. A passenger was shot in the chest, taken to another hospital and is in a stable condition.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said that a case of murder and attempted murder was opened and the police immediately initiated a manhunt for the suspects involved. On 30 January, the police arrested three suspects linked to the incident.

She added that upon being arrested, two of the three suspects confessed to the incident. The suspects are currently detained at the Midrand Police Station and will appear in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court.
