Dis-Chem Carlswald made a special donation of over-the-counter medicine to Nkosi’s Haven.
Nkosi’s Haven is a non-profit organisation based in Johannesburg that gives holistic care to mothers and children suffering from HIV/Aids. Founding director of the organisation Gail Johnson said, “Its a long-term residential care centre for destitute HIV/Aids mother and their children… At the moment we’ve 22 moms and 98 children.”
The organisation povides care to the children by assisting with schooling all the way through to tertiary education. The donation from Dis-Chem Carlswald stems from the store’s cosmetics counter gift wrapping Christmas drive during December. Cosmetics manager at the store Phumi Mahlangu said the store offered gift-wrapping to customers for a cash donation which helped raise R6 500.

The money raised was used to purchase over-the-counter medication at the store which was donated to Nkosi’s Haven. Mahlangu said, “We really wanted to give back to the community, especially the kids. And we believed the organisation’s work is very important.”
Johnson added, “The donation was an early Christmas [gift]. We have to buy all of our over-the-counter medicine and we spend a lot of money to take care of staff and residents. So this donation is incredible because it will save the organisation so much.
“The donation came out of the blue and I’d like to thank the team from the bottom of my heart for choosing us.”
