Power utility Eskom announced on Twitter that Stage 2 load-shedding will be implemented from 9pm today (30 January) to 6am tomorrow morning (31 January).
Eskom said the implementation of Stage 2 load-shedding is due to the system constraints and emergency resources that are depleting. “We have been using pumped-storage schemes and open-cycle gas turbines extensively over the past few days in order to supplement capacity and we need to replenish these overnight.”

Eskom said they will be reviewing the status of the system and communicate the status tomorrow morning (31 January), adding that the risk of Stage 2 load-shedding remains high from tomorrow into the weekend.
“We unreservedly apologise to South Africans for the negative impact this may have on them,” Eskom said.
- Set air-conditioners’ average temperature at 23ºC
- Switch off the lights when you leave the office
- Use the cold water tap
- Set your swimming pool pump cycle twice a day, three hours at a time for optimal energy use
- At the end of the day, turn off computers, copiers, printers at the switch and avoid standby or sleep mode.
