[VIDEO] Motorist on N1 South, Midrand clocks over 300km/h on highway

MIDRAND – A motorist filmed themselves speeding at 308km/h on the N1 South highway in Midrand.

A video has gone viral showing a motorist on the N1 South, Midrand travelling at a very high speed, it is not clear when the incident occurred, however, the video was posted on 19 January.

The video shows the Audi clocking a top speed at 308km/h, Dialdirect said traveling at such high speeds can cause severe consequences such as losing control of your vehicle.

Maanda Tshifularo, head of Dialdirect said, “Speeding impairs your ability to avoid obstacles and drastically reduces the time you have available to react to a dangerous situation. One vehicle making a move that the driver didn’t anticipate, one piece of debris in the road or one failure like a tyre blowout and this could end up as much more than just a wrecked car.”

The World Health Organisation said the faster you drive the greater the impact when you hit something such as a wall, another vehicle or a tree.

Spokesperson for the Joburg Metro Police, Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar added that fines are issued if you go break the speed limit, fines can reach up to R20 000 or time in jail.

The old-age rule, stick to the speed limit and drive carefully.
