Midrand SPCA helps rescue a dog at the bottom of a manhole

MIDRAND – Midrand SPCA thanked two men who went above and beyond to assist the dog which may have been stuck in the hole for some time.

The Midrand SPCA thanked two gentlemen from Rand Water on 8 January after discovering a dog down a manhole while on duty doing routine patrols near Midrand.

The post on Facebook read that the pair looked on Google to find the nearest SPCA and then drove on their motorcycles to Midrand SPCA to get assistance. “Inspector Jerry Seemise and kennel assistant Melusi Mdadweni followed the bikers who escorted them back to the location of the dog. Upon arrival, our team noted a terrified, emaciated dog at the bottom of the manhole. Without hesitation, inspector Jerry climbed down into the hole to be confronted by an aggressive dog,” the post read.

Seemise and Mdadweni had to use a control pole to secure the dog, covered its head with a blanket and brought it up to safety. “The dog is now in our care and hopefully, with lots of TLC, treatment and food, we will be able to get it to trust humans once again.”
