Midrand Police Station came together at the end of last year for a braai, drinks and music and celebrated what was a year filled with hardships as well as memorable, positive moments.
Station commander, Brigadier David Tsotsotso said in his speech that in the 2018/2019 financial year, Midrand was positioned 19th among the 142 stations in the province. “It means your daily moving in and out of the Midrand SAPS gate is actually profitable to me and to the management and is, therefore, making the station what it is today.
“I am thankful of your effort colleagues, but there is also an itching issue relating to our crime on a national level, there are those crimes in which Midrand is contributing more, like property crime, trio crime, vehicle hijacking, theft out of a motor vehicle and house break-ins. So it means there is a challenge for us all seated here to go back to the drawing board.”
Tsotsotso added that they have to give 120 per cent to ensure that the community is safe and feels safe.
The station commander also awarded some of his colleagues to show the management’s appreciation for their hard work, support and loyalty towards fighting crime.
Tsotsotso said that at the end of every year it was time to thank those who have performed well. “This year [2019], I decided to award all component heads because we all contribute towards working hard so we can bring the levels of crime down. Therefore, with the awards, the component heads can share the awards with members in their departments.
“We also gave awards to the reservists who come to the station to volunteer without being paid because we wanted to thank them as Midrand SAPS for choosing our station and helping the community as well as the Community Police Forum.”
Colonel David Matlhoromela, head of the Visible Policing Department expressed his joy after his department was awarded for good support in operations. “On behalf of my department, starting from crime prevention to front-line service delivery, charge office and deployment of police at hotspots,”I am very pleased of us being recognised for the work that we do and I am quite sure each and every member in Vispol deserves a hug for their performance.”
Steven Johnston said he was surprised to be recognised for his role as the CPF chairman as he had reached the end of his elective term as the chairman. “I am very thankful for the recognition from SAPS for all the recognition that I have put in.”
