New Jerusalem Children’s Home hit with devastating robbery

PRESIDENT PARK – The New Jerusalem Children's Home calls for assistance after being robbed three days after Christmas.

New Jerusalem Children’s Home has been left devastated after being struck with a devastating robbery on 28 December.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Sergeant Matome Tlamela said that the security guard was patrolling at the children’s home when in the early hours of the morning, two suspects entered the premises.

One of the suspects were armed and pointed their firearm at the guard before using his own handcuffs to restrain him. One suspect guarded him as their vehicle came to the premises and the suspects made their way to the organisation’s storeroom.

Tlamela added that the suspects broke into the storeroom by cutting the padlock and took a variety of goods including groceries, food and clothing, planned to be used for the children. The suspects made three trips between the storeroom and their vehicle before they fled the scene.

No injuries were sustained and the suspects are still at large. Managing Director of the New Jerusalem Children’s Home Anna Mojapelo said, “This is such a devastating incident. We are completely heartbroken.”

Mojapelo said that many of the goods stolen were collected during their Back-to-school drive that the organization ran from November which included goods collected for the children before the start of the school year.

Mojapelo called on the community for any assistance with clothing or groceries to assist the organisation. Any residents interested in helping can contact Mojapelo at amojapelo@hotmail.com
