Ward 132 year-end message

MIDRAND – Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe's year-end message.

Ward 132 councillor Annette Deppe shares a year-end message to her constituents looking back to the ward’s successes and challenges:

To the residents of Ward 132. Looking back at 2019, it has been a very challenging year as we are all aware that service delivery does not just happen with a wave of a wand. It takes an entire community to stand together and log those calls and following up regularly to make sure that things are done.

Yes, the city has delivered in many poor areas in Johannesburg and this is a wonderful change for a city as big as Johannesburg but Ward 132 also expect a share of what we pay rates for. So hopefully the new year will bring us much blessing across our ward. We managed to get a budget for the first time in 10 years for the Vorna Valley Vlei Rehabilitation Project.

We are the first ward in Johannesburg to introduce 30 per cent exclusionary housing into a private development in our area. This has benefited many residents who were tenants in the Vorna Valley and surrounding areas. I would like to thank BMW for the huge investment they made into the Waterfall node on Allandale.

We have a few great established residents associations like Barbeque Downs, Vorna Valley, Carlswald, and several in Waterfall City. Which of some are working very hard to assist their residents with council issues.

I would like to thank you all for your voluntary commitment to your residents and the positive contribution you make to your suburbs. Mall of Africa has been the home of several events over the year this has brought huge amount of people to Ward 132.

This is one of the preferred destinations for shopping, eating and events, as well as new residents who have moved in to the area. I would like to thank the Waterfall Management Company for the massive investment they have made into this area over the years.

The race track (Kyalami Grand Prix Circuit and International Convention Centre) has contributed in putting our ward onto the world map. I would like to thank the owners for trusting in our emergency services and officials and the great work they have done in making sure that their events are safe and sound levels acceptable to our residents.

In saying this, we have some great officials that have worked tirelessly for us in Region A and those that have worked and contributed to the successes will know who they are. I would like to thank them for their dedication and perseverance in making sure that services are delivered to our communities.

If you are staying at home this holiday, keep the fort going and be safe, make sure you have all the emergency numbers you need and if you don’t please contact me before the 15 December. If you are travelling then please drive carefully and keep safe wherever you going be sensible and don’t drink and drive.

Lastly, I would like to thank the thousands of residents that trust in my ability to run the ward and for all you letters, emails, WhatsApps and messages in thanking me and those that keep reminding me that I am a servant to the people and hold me accountable every day.”
