MIDRAND – Here are some of the crimes that took place in sector 4 between 7 and 17 November.

A total of nine crime incidents have been reported to Midrand Police Station in Sector 4 between 7 and 17 November, according to Sergeant Matome Tlamela who is the spokesperson for the police station.

Sector 4 is made up of the Glenferness, Kyalami, Barbeque Downs and Blue Hills areas. The crimes range from theft to fraud and are detailed below.

Man buys car fraudulently

A case of fraud was reported in the Kyalami area on 7 November. A man went into a car dealership in the Kyalami area at about midday and told the salesperson that he wished to purchase a Land Rover from their business. The documents he presented to the dealership (including his ID) were accepted by the dealership and the car was delivered to the man. However, the dealership has since learned that all his documentation was fraudulent and the man was unable to pay for the vehicle. All documentation, as well as emails from the man have been given to the police in order to help them investigate the incident.

Pizza run ends in misery

A case of theft out of a motor vehicle was reported on 13 November in the Kyalami area. A man driving a Nissan went to a shopping centre in the Kyalami area in order to purchase some pizza. He made his purchase, went back to his car and drove all the way back to his home before he realised that his laptop, cell phone and about R3 000 in cash had been taken from the vehicle, although no windows had been broken. It is believed that the criminals used a jammer to ensure that his car did not properly lock when he left for the shops.

Man’s car stolen while he shops

A case of the theft of a motor vehicle was reported on 13 November in the Kyalami area. At about 6.45pm the man’s silver Audi vehicle, valued at about R100 000, was stolen at a shopping centre in the Kyalami area while he went to buy groceries for his family. When he returned to the parking spot about 45 minutes later, he realised that his car had been taken from the spot. The suspects who committed the crime are not yet known to Midrand police.

Man’s bicycle stolen overnight

A case of housebreaking and theft was reported on 13 November in the Glenferness area. A man living in Macinnes Road went to bed at about 9pm on 12 November, making sure that his property was secure. At about 6am the next morning, the man attempted to leave his bedroom in order to go to work, but was unable to open the door as it had been jammed by something. He called a work colleague to help open the door, and after doing so went outside to discover that his bicycle, worth an estimated R3 000, had been stolen.

Woman becomes victim of man’s temper tantrum

A case of malicious damage to property and common robbery was reported in the Kyalami area on 14 November. A woman driving in her vehicle stopped at the traffic lights at the intersection of Main and Chattan roads at about 9.30am, with one car in front of her and two other cars in the lane next to hers. When the lights changed, she allowed one of the other cars to merge into her lane when another vehicle cut in front of her, and when they turned around the corner he slammed on his breaks. The woman was unable to stop in time and bumped into the back of his car. The man got out of his car, clearly angry and aggressive, and approached the woman who was still in her vehicle before punching the woman’s right side mirror while insulting the woman. He demanded her driver’s licence, but once the (very frightened) woman handed it over, he grabbed it, got back into his car and drove off. Although the woman followed the man for as long as she could, she eventually lost him and then contacted the police.

Business cheated out of nearly R20 000

A case of fraud was reported in the Kyalami area on 15 November. A business owner in the area, whose shop sells sound equipment, sold an unidentified man a sound system at about 1pm for the price of R18 598. The man used his bank card to pay for his purchase, but later reversed the charges without returning his purchase. This means that the business has lost both the money and the merchandise and then decided to contact the police.

Car jamming results in theft

A case of theft out of a motor vehicle was reported in the Kyalami area on 15 November. A woman parked her car on Cedar Road in Kyalami before going for a meal at a local restaurant. When she returned to the vehicle at about 10.40pm, she got into the vehicle, tried to lock the doors and realised that the car would not lock properly. Her passenger had the same result with his door, and then got out to look in the boot and realised that the woman’s laptop, financial calculator, credit card, laptop bag and computer mouse had been stolen from it. It is believed that the criminals used a car jammer to gain access to the vehicle.

Motorbike stolen in Kyalami

A case of theft was reported in the Kyalami area on 16 November. A man living in Maple Road woke up in the morning and went outside to his driveway, only to discover that his BMW motorbike, worth about R65 000, was no longer where he had parked it the night before. Upon further inspection of his property, he discovered that a padlock on his pedestrian gate entrance had been broken, which is how he suspects the criminals gained entry to the property. No arrests have been made yet.

Mysterious break-in in Kyalami

A case of business-breaking was reported in the Beaulieu area on 17 November. An employee at an indoor events venue in the area arrived at the site at about 6.40am and noticed that all the building’s main doors were still locked, the doors to the admin office and a few other rooms had had their doors broken in order to gain entry to the venue. Although someone had entered the property, no items appear to have been stolen from the scene and the only damage was to the doors. Police are unsure what crime the criminals were attempting to commit.
