End to domestic violence

MIDRAND – The police are investigating a case of domestic violence.

Police arrested a suspect for common assault and malicious damage to property on 17 November.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the initial incident occurred at a residence in President Park when the complainant came home from work at 10.30pm. The suspect, believed to be married to the complainant, inquired where they were coming from.

Tlamela said the complainant answered that they had come from work. The suspect became angry and went outside, coming back with a brick and allegedly hit the complainant against the forehead.

She added that the complainant walked out of the house and got into their truck.

While reversing, the suspect managed to enter the truck and allegedly smashed a window with the same brick used before and then got out.

The complainant then went to the Midrand Police Station and the suspect was arrested and charged with common assault and malicious damage to property.

The incident took place just before the country began to commemorate 16 Days of Activism against gender-based violence.
