Local community members, both young and old, gathered at the Little Lulu Day Care Centre in Glen Austin to celebrate its 30th birthday.
Learners and parents arrived at the school on 9 November to enjoy a variety of games, activities and delicious food from the tuck shops.
Lorraine Reiser, who is the founder of the Little Lulu Day Care Centre, explained that the centre opened in January 1989 and she is glad to say that they are still going strong.
“Thirty years is very important because I never thought I would still be here. We built the school up from scratch. We also have some of the parents here who went to Lulu’s and now have their kids here as well, which is amazing.
“To celebrate, we have games such as Soccer Stars, Building Bricks and Monkeynastics, we have different sections for all the activities and we have teachers helping out.”
While learners had their breath taken away by the fun and exciting games, parents and other siblings could enjoy a boerewors roll, cooldrinks, biltong and ice lollies among other things, as they cheered on the little ones.
Reiser said that all the money raised for the day would be of great help to the centre. The reason they decided to have the fun day instead of the normal concerts was so all the children and the parents could get to know each other and bond.
“We are going to have mothers or even dads racing with babies in their prams and afterwards get the parents to race as well.”
After all the games, all participants received honourary medals for their hard work and performance as an appreciation from Little Lulu’s.
