“The year has been very positive, but I must say it took a lot longer than normal to get through all the accolades, we had a lovely evening celebrating and given recognition to Jocelyn Hallendorff and the Springboks Scouts award with Catherine Rix.

“I would say it has been a fantastic pat on the back to everyone that has been involved.”

One of the highlights of the event was when Catherine Rix won the big award, the Springbok Scouts Badge. Rix said she felt very proud and very grateful adding that she has an amazing troop to support her. “Springbok award, the highest Scouts award, for me to get the award I went through requirements which were meant to test me under stress and to see how one can cope with large volumes of work and last-minute planning among other stuff.

“But personally for me I did it through matric which required me to finish it before my prelims and finals which was a big push, but this is really a nice way for me to end the year.”

“A letter was soon sent out when I was with the Midrand Tigers as a secretary, I agreed and told them I would do their news letters. Next thing I knew I was in uniform, they put me through the courses and I never looked back, my plan is to carry on scouting as I leave for the United Kingdom.”
