Sector 5 aims for better service

MIDRAND – Midrand Police Station and CPF introduce a new sector and nominations for Sector 5 are now open.

Due to crime trends and topography of Midrand, the Midrand Police Station in conjunction with the Midrand Community Police Forum recently restructured Sector 5 to better serve the community.

According to Steven Johnston, chairperson of the Midrand CPF, the old Sector 5, which comprised of the Midrand central business district, will be incorporated into the existing Sector 1 for now.

The new police boundary for Midrand Sector 5 includes:

• Juskei View (previously Sector 1)

• Waterfall Estates (previously Sector 2)

• Waterfall City (previously Sector 2)

• Mall of Africa (previously Sector 2)

• Kyalami Glen (previously Sector 2)

• Kyalami on Main (previously Sector 4)

• BBQ Downs (previously Sector 4)

• Plooysville (previously Sector 2).

Johnson added that Midrand Police Station and the Midrand CPF have analysed the crime trends of the new Sector 5 and found that the area was being policed by volunteers from three different sectors.

“With forming the area into one sector, it makes it more manageable for the police, which means keeping one vehicle in that sector to service the area. By doing so, it makes it convenient and user friendly to the community as they only have one number to phone in an emergency and not have to remember which sector they fall under to phone a sector vehicle.

“There are also Sector Crime Forum positions available – chairman, vice-chairman, secretary, vice secretary, pro and operations or patrolling,” he added.

Johnston added that should one wish to nominate a resident for a position, they should bear in mind a nominee may not be a member of a political party, security company, SAPS or hold a criminal record. They must reside in the sector they are being nominated for and one may not nominate themself.

“All nominations should be mailed through to stevenjo@webmail.co.za by no later than 14 November this year.”
