One pair of shoes goes a long way

MAYIBUYE – Making a Difference South Africa donates 300 shoes, socks and stationery to learners at the Mayibuye Primary School.

Delighted schoolchildren from Mayibuye Primary School are now the proud owners of new school shoes and stationery thanks to Making a Difference South Africa.

The non-profit organisation based in Midrand, with the help of a local business, came to the school on 8 November to give each learner, most of whom are from disadvantaged backgrounds, shoes, socks and stationery to use next year.

Chan Naidoo, the CEO of Making A Difference South Africa, explained that they were at the school to support the local community and to bring a positive change to the lives of learners. “We focus on providing basic necessities to children in disadvantaged communities with the provision of school shoes, socks and stationery in order for them to have dignity to make them present in the class in order to make sure that the learning process can continue.

“This is a 300-shoe delivery with socks and stationery which has a massive impact on the Mayibuye community where children are extremely disadvantaged. We believe it will definitely make a positive change in their lives.”

Naidoo added that through partnerships with responsible corporate citizens such as their current partner and the assistance of ordinary South Africans, these initiatives become a reality. “This is ordinary people digging deep into their pockets because they want to see a positive change.

“The organisation we are involved with wanted to make a positive change in the community they are located in, we contacted Mayibuye Primary School based on the history the company has with the school but also understanding the social dynamics under which the school operates in.”

Mayibuye Primary School principal Kgabo Rammutla thanked the foundation and said that what they have done is more than enough. “If one needy child gets a pair of shoes, he or she won’t have to come to school without shoes or with torn-off shoes. The family has one less pair of shoes to worry about. Most cannot afford to buy them and that pair could last for more than a year, making it a real investment.

“On behalf of the school (children, staff and parents), we would like to thank the foundation and wish that this partnership will be a lasting one. May the giving hand be blessed,” Rammutla concluded.

Naidoo added that the need in Midrand is massive and any assistance provided to the organisation would be much appreciated.
