No treats for alleged thieves

IVORY PARK – Four men in Ivory Park have been arrested for possession of stolen property after patrollers alerted police to the incident.

The Ivory Park Police Station Commander has extended his appreciation to Ivory Park Ext 2 community patrollers whose swift response has played a huge role in the arrest of four men found in possession of stolen property.

According to the station spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane, community patrollers were alerted of four men who had allegedly been offloading suspected stolen goods at an address in the area in the early hours of the morning on 28 October. “Police were soon mobilised and the sector manager and his other colleagues rushed to the place and found the suspects with the stock.

“The suspects, seeing that they were about to get caught, then decided to come clean, telling the officers about the origin of the stock.”

Matimulane added that the stolen goods included boxes of eggs, fizzy drinks and snacks. “Preliminary questioning of the suspects soon revealed that the items were the proceeds of a business burglary which took place in Entshonalanga Section in Tembisa on Friday morning [25 October].

“Two of the suspects are employees of a bakery bordering the storage site from where the stock was taken. It also emerged that entry into the storage house was gained via the bakery side, which two of the suspects have access to as they are employees. One is a security officer.”

Matimulane concluded that the suspects, who are between 19 to 25 years old, have been arrested and detained at the Ivory Park Police Station’s holding cells for alleged possession of suspected stolen property. They were expected to appear in the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court on 4 and 5 November.

Ivory Park Police Station Commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo added that they would like more active community members such as the ones from Ext 2 whose timely intervention has dealt a criminal network a huge blow. “On behalf of my management, I say you did an excellent job and we wish this could be emulated all over.

“All of the suspects’ backgrounds shall be thoroughly investigated just to ascertain whether or not they are involved in other criminal activities.”
