Widows receive bundles of love

IVORY PARK – Life 4 U Foundation hands out food parcels to the less fortunate widows and orphans in Ivory Park.

Widows from Ivory Park recently received a helping hand thanks to the Life 4 U Foundation.

The foundation hosted their Widows Care Programme on 1 November. On the day, about 50 widows were given food parcels and were addressed by Dolly Ledwaba of the Gauteng Provincial Legislature who shared some valuable information with them.

The food parcels comprised sugar, maize meal, cooking oil, a bottle of juice, tea bags and baking flour among other things.

The Widows Care Programme is one

of many programmes run by the foundation. Simon Molekwa, the founder of Life 4 U Foundation, explained that the project not only supported widows but orphans as well.

Molekwa added that the project of caring for widows was very special to their hearts as widowhood was a traumatic life experience and process that naturally should evoke sympathy.

He highlighted that women who have become widowed were sometimes considered ‘cursed’, which could lead to them being mistreated and neglected. If a widow did not inherit her husband’s belongings, this put further strain on the families.

Molekwa added that children being raised in a single-parent household may also need to drop out of school to help support their family which is a driving force for the non-profit organisation to assist.

He also extended his gratitude to all those who made the event a success including the sponsors who donated the food items. “The next widows care event will return back to Tembisa and Katlehong.”
