Two armed robbers receive five-year prison sentence

MIDRAND – The Midrand Police Station is pleased with the conviction of two armed robbers.

The Midrand Police Station is happy to announce the conviction of two armed robbers who have been sentenced to five years’ imprisonment.

Spokesperson for the station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the accused, Mlungisi Ndlovu and Buhle Buthelezi, were each sentenced to five years’ direct imprisonment and a 10-year suspended sentence following an armed robbery which took place outside a shopping centre in Waterfall on 23 September.

Tlamela said the initial incident occurred at 2.45pm when the two approached a victim from behind, forcefully taking her handbag before fleeing towards the mall parking lot. A biker who witnessed the incident chased the suspects until local security at the mall came to help.

The accused were apprehended and handed to the police. “The station management would like to commend the good work of everyone involved in this case until the sentencing of the accused.”
