One suspect injured, others still at large following church break-in

PRESIDENT PARK – One suspect was left injured and two are still at large following an attempted church robbery in President Park.


The Midrand police arrested a suspect for business robbery and unlawful pointing of a firearm on 31 October.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said that a Midrand police officer was alerted of a break-in at a church in President Park. The police attended the scene along with Axon Security.

According to Tlamela, three suspects came out of the church and proceeded to flee in different directions. The Midrand police officer gave chase, a shoot-out ensued and the officer shot one suspect in the left leg. The gun that was pointed at the police officer during the shoot-out was discovered to be a toy.

Tlamela said that the suspect was taken to Tembisa Hospital under police guard.

Tlamela added that the police recovered the items that were stolen which included speakers and musical equipment from the church.

The other two suspects are still at large and the Midrand police are currently investigating the situation further.
