Robbery suspects arrested after car crash

MIDRAND – Three common robbery suspects were arrested after crashing their car in Midrand.


Police have arrested three suspects who crashed their car following an alleged robbery on 22 October.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Constable Thabiso Selowa said the robbery occurred when the complainant was waiting at the Gallagher Main Gate at the Gautrain bus stop.

One of the suspects approached the victim from her right and allegedly grabbed her phone. The suspect then got into a white Toyota Corolla and fleed the scene. “The complainant shouted for help and saw a police vehicle behind her who she alerted about the incident.”

Selowa continued that immediately following the robbery, the suspects’ vehicle was involved in an accident at a stop street on Richards Drive. The police rushed to the scene and apprehended the three suspects in the car before they were able to escape.

The suspects were charged with common robbery, malicious damage to property and reckless and negligent driving. They are expected to appear in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court soon.
