The Grade 7 learners from Summerhill School in Midrand showed off their business side at this year’s entrepreneurs day.
The school’s entrepreneurs day has been running for 10 years and saw the learners taking their knowledge from their economic management sciences classes and applying them by developing a business for the day.
From a sweet stall to bakes goods, the learners came out and had a fun day with the rest of the school.
Teacher and organiser for the day Derrick Potscher said, “Everything that they learn, they have to apply. We look stuff like the presentation of their stalls and the things that they sell.”
Potscher said the learners developed surveys and forms to send out to the rest of the school to find out what they can sell and to create a balance between all the stalls.
“The basic skills that we want them to take out of this day is being a self-sufficient, independent and entrepreneurial skill. At the end of the day, anyone can be taught entrepreneurial skills, not everyone has that. So we want them to learn the basic such as working with people, working with money and running a business.”
The process of developing their stalls saw them engage with a wide variety of their subjects including information technology which showed them the basics of developing their own websites, which gave the children the opportunity to develop a pre-order system for their stalls.
