Blue Hills youngsters give back to others

BLUE HILLS – Learners from Blue Hills College spent time with children from the Olievenhoutbosch Disability Centre.

A group of Blue Hills College learners took a trip to the Olievenhoutbosch Disability Centre on 10 October to spend the day with the children at the centre.

The group of learners and teachers, who are a part of the Helping Hands Club, donated food and clothes to the children to show their support as well as do good in the community.

The team spent time with a young girl who has hydrocephalus, which is characterised by a build-up of fluid in the brain.

The learners also gave her gifts and sang for her.

Blue Hills College principal Bekithemba Ndlovu commended the learners actions.

“Taking care of the needy is the best thing to do in society, and as a Christian school, guided by Seventh-day Adventist Church principles we will always do our best to support the needy in our society,” Ndlovu said.

Founder and manager for the Olievenhoutbosch Disability Centre, Diana Sekese, welcomed the school with open arms.

Sekese explained that the school has been visiting the centre for the past four years. “They have been helping us with food donations and clothes among other things, which we are grateful for because we care for disadvantaged children.

“Therefore I would like to say to the Blue Hills College that we appreciate their help very much.”

While the Helping Hands Club enjoyed their time in Olievenhoutbosch, Grade 10 learners from Blue Hills College went on tour to Durban and visited the Abalindi Welfare Home which is based in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

Ndlovu added that the learners worshipped with the children and also played with them. “While on their excursion to the centre the learners also contributed R1 000 from their pocket money and donated the cash to the home.”

Ndlovu concluded, “In addition, learners brought groceries which were bought by their parents to donate to the centre. Another group from Blue Hills College (Helping Hands Club) visited Olievenhoutboschs’ Disability Centre on 10 October.”
