Banyana player takes on a new challenge

MIDRAND – Christ Church Preparatory School and College have appointed Banyana Banyana star Kaylin Swart as their new girls' soccer coach.


Christ Church Preparatory School and College are happy to introduce Banyana Banyana goalkeeper Kaylin Swart as their new girls’ team soccer coach.

The school offered girls soccer this year with great interest being shown in the preparatory school and college. Swart joined as a coach this month and will train teams until the end of the year in her offseason.

Head of sport at the institution Alviro Petersen said, “We introduced soccer after doing a survey asking the pupils what sport they would like to play. There was a call for soccer among the girls. In term one we just wanted to see where they are and now in term three we brought Kaylin in.”

Swart said, “While I’m here, I want to teach the girls perseverance and commitment while also creating a great passion for football. Yes, you are balancing academics and football. So its about instilling aspects that help them grow.

“I think my passion for the game is something I want to see a move to the team. And with the evolution of the game over the past four years and Banyana Banyana entering the spotlight more and more, the women’s game is constantly growing which inspires young girls all around which is great.”

She added that with the school’s great facilities it was pretty exciting. “All the girls really want to learn. Even though they are only starting, it doesn’t mean they can’t be committed to the sport.”

Petersen said bringing Swart and her expertise in was important in laying the foundations of soccer and it also showed the learners that the school was serious about developing the teams.

“It’s great to have a current international player on board. It’s great for the school but, more importantly, it’s great for girls sport. We are serious about it and we are prepared.”
