Community encouraged to participate in CPF elections

IVORY PARK – Members of communities within the Ivory Park Police Station precinct urged to take part in the Community Police Forum elections.

Ivory Park Police Station Commander, Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo has urged all community members to fully participate in the upcoming elections for the Community Policing Forum (CPF).

Ngcobo believes it is in the best interest of all residents within the Ivory Park policing precinct to get fully involved as CPF members. “This enables the community to stay fully abreast with crime patterns in their areas, and to play meaningful roles in crime combatting efforts.”

Ngcobo added that participation in the local structures of the CPF is the best way in which the community can cooperate well with the police and influence the policy decisions within their areas. “Thus we call upon everyone in all eight sectors across the Ivory Park and surrounding areas to participate.”

Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane explained how the CPF works for those unfamiliar with the concept. “The role and responsibility of the Community Policing Forum is to strengthen and maintain the strong partnerships between the community and the police, thus promoting communication between SAPS and the community, improving the rendering of police services through mobilisation, crime awareness campaigns and the deployment of patrollers in hotspots to the community at provincial, cluster and in the sectors at station level.

“Furthermore, the CPF is the strongest mechanism that is capable of improving transparency in the SAPS and accountability of services to the community.”
