Summerhill’s IT whizzes impress

MIDRAND – Summerhill College's Azola Koloki won big at the IT Showcase 2019.


Summerhill College have expressed pride in their matric learners who took part in the IT Showcase 2019.

Spokesperson for the school Teressa Oates said, “The IT Showcase was an initiative aimed at creating a platform for South African Grade 12 information technology (IT) learners to gain exposure for their matric IT projects. These projects are coded during the matric year and are of an exceptional standard.

“The IT Showcase hopes to create a meeting place between Grade 12 IT students, businesses and tertiary institutions.”

Summerhill College Grade 12 IT learner Azola Koloki took part in the competition and created a software for inventory management using Java and SQL which feature chat and email features. Koloki presented his work on 19 September at Redhill School in Morningside where he went against learners from schools such as St John’s College and St Benedict’s College among others. He was assisted by fellow learner Roselyn Mutambiranwa with documentation of his project and at the showcase.

Representatives from the University of Witwatersrand and the University of Johannesburg judged the competition and Koloki received first prize in the ‘Most User-friendly’ category.

Oates added, “Summerhill School is extremely proud of Azola and wishes him luck for his future endeavours.”
