Tammy Taylor Mrs South Africa finalist takes recycling to the community

MIDRAND – Kids at the Urban Kids Educentre learnt all about recycling on 20 September.

One of the Tammy Taylor Mrs. South Africa 2019 finalists, Trudy Zulu, has launched a community activation project at her school of choice, the one which is in Midrand, on 20 September.

According to Zulu, Tammy Taylor Mrs. SA is not just a pageant, “It is aimed at empowering women to become the best version of themselves.

“We are challenged in various ways that force us out of our comfort zones.

“One of our recent tasks is introducing our communities to the world of recycling and helping them to generate funds through recycling with Mpact Recycling who is one of our official sponsors.”

The school she has chosen is Urban Kids Educentre of the Urban Life Church. “The children will collect the recycling and then fill up a minimum one-tonne container with papers. The proceeds will then go to the school. This is about empowering the community through recycling, the more they collect before the end of October, the more money they can make.”

Zulu said that her choice came after moving to Midrand early this year. “After doing research checking out different churches around, I decided to go with Urban Life Church because they are doing so much for the community with their many projects, orphan care being one of them”

Head of marketing for Mpact Recycling, Johannes Mohlala said that they have been working with the Tammy Taylor Women Empowerment project for five years. “They are working alongside Mpact Recycling to raise recycling awareness at schools and communities.

“We are trying to help the school raise much-needed funds by recycling their waste paper because we have realised that most communities and most schools do have paper they are sitting with and they can really make money out of it.”

Mohlala added that Mpact Recycling also runs numerous programmes and they have a small business programme for people interested in recycling. He urged those interested in recycling to contact them on 012 380 0920, visit their website www.mpact.co.za or find their nearest branch. “We will help them set up their business programme to buy and sell to communities.”

Cailey Jones said who works for the Urban Kids Educentre is very happy about their new venture with Tammy Taylor Mrs. South Africa finalist Trudy Zulu and Mpact Recycling, “I think it is great, we have been looking for a way to look at reducing waste and how to go about doing that. We started recycling this year but did not have the correct contacts, so I think with Trudy doing this, it has been very helpful.”
