Learners celebrate their heritage

SAGEWOOD – The learners at Curro Midrand Sagewood Campus celebrated Heritage Day.

It was time to celebrate culture at Curro Midrand Sagewood Campus as the teachers and student body hosted a heritage day celebration on 18 September.

Spokesperson for the school Vanitha Govindasamy said, “Each class was tasked with adopting a South African culture and then enjoyed a mass braai celebration.”

The day saw the learners shared different traditions, such as Indian dance, isiZulu praise poetry and gumboot dancing as part of the day’s programme. “The classes showcased their tables with brilliant displays of the respective cultures and presented their findings to the rest of the school. The tables were judged by an external judge.

“The outdoor braai was enjoyed by the entire school whereby the outdoor picnic reflected the unity of our rainbow culture. The learners of the school extended their time on campus way beyond the school day and highlighted the camaraderie which we often neglect as a community.”
