A drive for a good cause

MIDRAND – Botshabelo is inviting everyone who wants to make a difference in their community to join their PurplePelotons team for the 947RideJoburg

Do you want to make a difference in your community, but don’t know how?

The Discovery 947 RideJoburg cycling competition is set to take place on 17 November and you can make a difference by riding for, or supporting Botshabelo Babies Home’s cycling team, the Purple Pelotons.

Botshabelo is a multifaceted charity that is passionate about transforming children’s lives through excellent residential care and education. Marketing director for the charity, Michelle Hinrichsen said, “We run three programmes – Babies Home, Urban Kids Preschool and Uplifted Teacher Training – as part of the work we do in our community.”

Hinrichsen added that this is the seventh time that Botshabelo and its #PurplePeloton team are part of the event. “The team is made up of male and female, old and young heroes that ride the street of Johannesburg to raise funds for Botshabelo.

“They ride for a purpose, devoting their time and strength as an investment in the future of women and children through orphan care, preschool education, and teacher training. Last year we had 30 riders who managed to raise just over R210 000 for Botshabelo.”

Hinrichsen said that community members who want to be involved can join the Purple Peloton team.

Besides an early start time, riders will be pampered with a goody bag and a team party prior to the event where the cycling packs will be handed out as well as a lovely support team along the track.

“This year the organiser presented a new naming sponsor, adding more highlights to the event.

The route stays the same, but the event returns this year with a revitalised look and purpose,” she added

“Besides the well-known 94.7 km route, riders are able to register for a shorter 40km route, starting at Melrose Arch. The Mountain Bike Ride is back as usual (10km, 25km and 55km) a week earlier on 9 and 10 November. Participants can get their vitality points up too.”

Simply enter the race by visiting www.947ridejoburg.co.za, join the charity bond and ask others (friends, family or your company) to sponsor you as you ride for a purpose.

Even if the mere thought of cycling makes you sweat, individuals and companies can sponsor cyclists and give them an extra push of motivation.
