Authors to look out for at this year’s book fair

JOHANNESBURG – A variety of talented authors and storytellers can be expected at the South African Book Fair this year.

 


The upcoming South Africa Book Fair promises to be a fun and deeply enriching experience for people from all walks of life.

Everyone is urged to book their tickets to participate in the fair at Constitution Hill in Johannesburg from 6 to 8 September. A brief background of a few out of the over 100 authors, poets, storytellers and creators that will be there gives an idea of what to expect.

Northern Cape, Kuruman-born and raised Lerato Trok is a published author of numerous children’s books in Setswana and English. She is currently a managing editor at Puku Children’s Literature Foundation and consults for a variety of early literacy organisations which include Nal’ibali.

Lee Mokobe is a transqueer poet from Cape Town and the founder of creative director of Vocal Revolutionaries. His writing focuses on human rights, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, intersex and asexual (LGBTQIA) experiences and African history. His writing has been published in various anthologies and journals as part of international academic discourse.

Jamaican-born and raised D’ bi Young Anitafrika is a feminist artist. She is internationally celebrated for her work as a dub poet, monodramatist, director and educator. Addressing issues of gender, sexuality, race, class and the human experience through her radical interdisciplinary arts practices, she has written, performed and published four collections of poetry, nine plays, and seven dub poetry albums.

Jeremy Daniel is the author of the Road to Glory series of sports biographies for young sports fans. The seven books in the series explore the life stories of South African sporting superstars like AB de Villiers, Chad le Clos, and Caster Semenya.

Reverend Frank Chikane is currently a pastor in Soweto. He has published three books: No life of my own, Eight Days in September and The Things that Could Not be Said. He has also written a number of articles in various books and journals.
