NOORDWYK – One suspect was left dead and one in custody following a stabbing incident in Noordwyk.

The Midrand police arrested a suspect for possession of an unlicensed firearm and assault in Noordwyk.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Sergeant Matome Tlamela said the arrests were made on 15 September at 7pm following a complaint of fighting that occurred on Lever and 9th Road.

Upon arrival, the members found a male lying on the ground bleeding from an alleged stabbing. They called the emergency services before receiving another complaint of fighting further up Lever Road.

Tlamela added, “The police noticed a group of people beating up two males. Upon investigation, they alleged that the two were the ones who had stabbed the victim.”

The police attempted to rescue the two alleged suspects from the group and a firearm fell from one of the suspects. The two suspects were arrested and immediately taken to the Tembisa Hospital for further treatment, but one of them died from his injuries.

The other suspect is currently under police guard at the hospital and will face charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Investigations continue.
