A taste of city living at VW’s T-Cross City

Petrol heads, foodies, music junkies and VR fanatics are in for a treat as Volkswagen’s T-Cross City officially opens. For two days, the Montecasino outdoor area will turn into the ultimate city experience and urban playground.

“This is our biggest launch of the year and we wanted to create a ground-breaking event to celebrate the introduction of the T-Cross, which is our entry into the compact SUV segement. We wanted to do something that is ground-breaking and new and also get the public involved,” Siyanga Madikizela, public relations manager for Volkswagen South Africa.

Pushing an ethos that encourages people to play by their own rules, the T-Cross City initially lived online until it was eventually built as an actual, real-life city for fans to explore and enjoy for free from 21 – 22 September.

“The more we got people to sign up and pick which experiences they wanted to go for increased the chances of that experience going live. Based on everything from the public’s support and indicating which ones they went for the City was then built,” Madikizela said.

Taking Volkswagen to new heights revellers will get to experience The Marabi Jazz Club, Fives Futbol, Goliath and Goliath, Gourmet Food market and a virtual reality sports zone area at T-Cross City. All of the pop-up areas are set to be curated by top names in the industry who have rallied their fans to ensure that they secure a spot for the experiences.

“We are looking for the T-Cross to dominate its segment. We wanted to do things with a bang and show South Africa that the T-Cross has arrived and to make a bold and beautiful statement that supports the car,” she said.

Amalgamating all experiences you’d find in the city, the T-Cross City does not only establish the T-Cross as a car ideal for city living but a car that takes you across all city experiences in a convenient, compact and stylish way.
