Families get a welcome visit

IVORYPARK – Life4U Foundation handed over food parcels to two widows in Ivory Park, in celebration of World Charity Day.

The Life4U Foundation decided to visit two families in Ivory Park to hand over food parcels on World Charity Day (5 September).

The foundation cares for widows by providing food, clothes and guidance in the form of motivation to the women so they can sustain their lives due to unemployment and the loss of their breadwinners.

The foundation’s chairperson, Mpho Mofokeng, project manager Simon Molekwa and John Ngomane who is their assistant and driver, decided to visit two widows on 5 September to pamper them with food hampers consisting of maize meal, flour, instant porridge and maize rice as well as school shoes, among other necessities.

Mofokeng explained why they thought it was a great idea to visit the families, “Usually we do events whereby we call on widows in our area and give them food parcels, an initiative we do four times a year.

“We also give them motivation, we get professional speakers and pastors to speak to them and uplift them spiritually and mentally. Thereafter we give them a lunch meal for the day and each widow receives a food parcel to take home.

“Because today is World Charity Day, we decided we should instead visit two families which are in need and hand over some food to them because an event needs proper planning and resources as well as getting other stakeholder on board.

“So if there are any widows who would love for us to assist them, they can visit our offices which are located at Moriting section in Tembisa or simply call the following numbers: 079 169 3705 or 079 596 9099.”

One of the widows who was visited by the Life4U crew was Wanana Makile who is 76 years of age. Makile lives with her youngest daughter, her two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Makile expressed her joy and wishes, “I just want my eldest grandson to get a job and my other young grandson doing Grade 7 to be guided because I am old and afraid that I will not be here to care for them any longer.”

Maurine Sithole was the second widow the team visited. Sithole, who cares for four of her children and her grandson, said all she needed was a job and food to eat.

“My two eldest children, a boy and a girl, do get temporary jobs but I would love for them to get good, permanent jobs to take care of themselves,” she said.
