GDE Grade 1 and 8 online placement process for 2020 commences

JOBURG – Parents are reminded that the department will process the offers systematically, based on the order of application.

Gauteng Department of Education (GDE) has commenced its online admission learner placement process for 2020 Grade 1 and 8 children today (18 September).

Spokesperson for the Department of Education, Steve Mabona said, “The placement of applicant learners is a process and will be done progressively by communicating with parents accordingly.”

Mabona said offers of placement would not be sent to all parents on the same day. The department would process offers systematically based on the order of application options outlined in the admission regulations.

Mabona added that parents who have submitted the required documents are reminded to expect offers of placement via an SMS from today until 31 October. “The WA1–WA4 numbers issued during the application period will not be used as the basis to determine placement.”

The first offers of placement would be given to learners who reside close to the school or within the feeder zone, has a sibling at the school, if their previous school is close to the school in the feeder zone or if one of their parents work within the feeder zone of the school.

“We wish to remind parents that placement offers must be accepted within seven school days. Therefore, the first offers received must be accepted by 8 October,” said Mabona.
