VEC celebrates new support room

MIDRAND – The Midrand Victim Empowerment Centre is excited about their newly refurbished support rooms.

The Midrand Victim Empowerment Centre welcomed a brand-new support room to assist their operations.

The centre is a section of the police that assists victims of crime in the debriefing following an incident. With 15 facilitators, alongside side honour’s students from Pearson College, the centre give victims of various contact crimes much-needed support.

Unit facilitator Sue Klingenberg said that the importance of the centre is the counselling which gives the victims an opportunity to reframe the crime. “It gives them the chance to gain power back following the crime… It can also lessen the onset of PTSD with a good debriefing.”

Through a donation from businesses and local residents, the center was able to create a new 24-hour support room while refurbishing their existing room.
