IN TWEETS: Midrand shops closed after apparent looting attempt

MIDRAND – Various law enforcement agencies including the Johannesburg Metro Police Department are monitoring the situation.


Shops in the Midrand CBD closed as a precautionary measure at around 3pm this afternoon, 4 September, as looting and a march was said to have been brewing threatening all normal business operations in the area. 

This follows the looting of shops in areas such as Alex, the Joburg CBD and Tembisa in recent days.

It has been circulated on social media that there was looting in Midrand, with one of the garages in the area is said to have been looted by locals. This is yet to be confirmed.

Various law enforcement agencies, including the Johannesburg Metro Police Department are monitoring the situation. The Bouders Mall was said to have been closed for safety.
