Joint operation conducted in Midrand

MIDRAND – The Midrand police got out into the street and conducted day-long operations in Midrand.

 


The Midrand Police Station conducted Operation Okae Molao across Midrand on 22 August.

The police began in the early morning by gathering in Waterfall for a special briefing from Lieutenant Colonel David Mahloromela who led the operations in the area.

Mahloromela explained, “These are ongoing operations by the police that has been moving between various police stations.”

The Midrand police were joined by various security companies including TRSS Security, All is Well Security and Ria Sebetsa Security.

Mahloromela added that management of the police stations devised the operations based on their crime trends which, in the Midrand area, includes issues such as trio crimes which have become a concern.

The operation was brought about in three phases with the police starting with roadblocks in multiple areas, the second phase focused on compliance laws and patrolling while the third phase went into the evening focusing on high visibility in the identified hotspots and conducting stop-and-searches.

Mahloromela added that these operations are an ongoing attempt to address major crime issues in the area.

A spokesperson for the station Constable Thabiso Selowa said that the operations saw four suspects arrested.

The suspects were arrested for possession of marijuana, common robbery, reckless and negligent driving and common assault.

All four suspects appeared in the Midrand Magistrates’ Court on 23 August and were granted bail.
