Family shares grief over son’s murder

KYALAMI – Family expresses their grief over their son's murder that took place a year ago but justice has not been served.

The family of Theolan Nair, who was one of two victims in a Kyalami double murder, has expressed their ongoing devastation a year after his passing.

The incident occurred on 12 August last year at a venue in Kyalami when an alleged argument broke out between the two deceased and two suspects. Midrand Police Station spokesperson Constable Thabiso Selowa said that one of the suspects allegedly pulled out a firearm, killing the two victims before they fled the scene.

The case has been in and out of court for the past year and has recently been struck off the court roll pending the availability of a ballistics test. The family of Theolan Nair expressed their deepest sadness a year after the incident. Nair’s mother* said, “As a mum who so loved her son, it’s not easy to say what I am going through daily as my son was my only one and we shared a very close bond. I think only when we parted away from each other did I feel this empty space in my life. My son was a child who had much more to live for. He was a handsome well-mannered child, loved by all.

“My life, after losing my son Theo, is not worth living another day. I am now seeing doctors regularly which I’ve never done before. I suffered a rare liver failure and am on treatment. I have sleepless nights, just praying for justice to be done for my angel. “It’s already a year gone and we haven’t come close to any closure. I pray for help in every step I take to walk this path of emptiness.” His sister* added, “This tragedy has left us helpless and heartbroken. I’ve attended every court hearing and to date, I am still searching for answers.

Justice needs to be served to the murderer for taking the lives of these two young men.” Nair’s father* said that he still remembers the morning call from last year where he heard about his son’s death. “Theolan, being my only son, was a pleasure to raise. He was well-known for his wonderful character, he had the most respect and love, which everyone would remember him by.

Friends and family that knew him cannot believe the horrible way we were robbed of our dear son.” The case is still ongoing and updates will follow. *The family wished not to have their first names mentioned, for their own protection.
