BEST TIME TO VISIT BALLITO

The weather is generally good all year-round for the whole of KwaZulu-Natal.

Tours to Durban and surrounding areas can be booked at any time. It is scorching hot and busy during the summer months and has warm days during the winter, which is also the quieter time of the year and when you’ll find the most  affordable accommodation in Ballito.

Ballito, also known as the Dolphin Coast, is situated on the North Coast in KwaZulu Natal. It lies 116 metres above sea level. Ballito’s climate can be described as temperate and warm. It also received a significant amount of rainfall during the year, even during the dry months.

The average annual temperature is around 20.7 °C (69.2 °F) and it measures about 985 millimetres (38.8 inch) of annual rainfall.

If you want to do some dolphin and whale watching, dolphins are spotted all year round and the best time of the year for whale spotting is between July and December, more specifically between September and October.

TEMPERATURE

Temperatures vary very little in Ballito. Even with the high humidity experiences in KwaZulu Natal, it is not as fierce in Ballito. The area is more temperate than most areas.

The hottest time to visit Ballito would be in January and February and then even March. Early to mid-January temperatures can regularly rise as high 29.2 °C (84.6°F), and rarely drop below 21°C (69.8°F) at night.

In February, the average temperature is around 24.0 °C (75.2 °F) dropping to around 18°C (72.4°F) at night.

July is known to have the lowest average temperature, measuring around 16.8 °C (62.2 °F).

RAIN OR SNOW

Ballito tends to get rain all year round. If you want to visit the area out of the rainy season the months with the lowest chance of significant rain would be from June to August, although the chances of rain in July is still fairly high.

During this time, the rain that might fall will not really be more than just over 1 inch (2,5 millimetres).

April would be the best month to visit with the least chance of any rain. On the other hand, it is very likely to rain in early to mid-December.

Chances of snow is very slim in this area.

HUMIDITY AND WIND

As with the rest of KwaZulu Natal, Ballito also has some very humid months, but on average the humidity is comfortable during most months.

The least humid month is June and the most humid December, with the humidity being around 57% and 74% respectively.

The wind in Ballito is usually moderate. November is by far the windiest month, followed by October and December.

During November, the average wind speed blows around 8.5 knots which is considered as a gentle breeze.

If you do want to miss high sustained winds, which actually only last for a few minutes, do not visit Ballito during late September. The average top speed during this time reach 17.4 knots, a fresh breeze according to some.

CROWDED

Ballito is fairly busy all year round although the busiest month for tourism is during August, followed by June and then March and April. There’s always lots of things to do in Ballito.

Beaches would be crowded and prices for Ballito accommodation and flights in will sore.

The quietest time will be during February, for various reasons.
