Midrand SPCA hit hard

GLEN AUSTIN – The Midrand SPCA was hit hard following another robbery on 10 July.


The Midrand SPCA was struck with a major loss following a robbery on the evening of 10 July.

General manager Pam Pretorius said three armed suspects entered the property, held up their caretaker and forced him to open up before beating him up and locking him a separate room.

She said the suspects broke everything in the organisation’s main office and fled the scene with their medicine, phones, three printers, their alarm and surveillance system.

The caretaker was able to alert nearby security. Pretorius said none of the animals were taken by the suspects.

The case was reported to the Ivory Park Police Station. The spokesperson, Captain Bernard Matimulane, said a case of business robbery had been opened but no arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.

The robbery is one of five that the Midrand SPCA has experienced in the past year.

The last robbery took place on 27 March when a group of suspects stole blankets and a dog.

Pretorius called on the local community for any funds that could assist with upgrading their security system. Donations can be made via EFT.
