Road upgrades take place on 9th Road in Noordwyk

NOORDWYK – 9th Road is known for its muddy puddles, the road construction is expected to be completed by the end of the year.

The City of Johannesburg had a sod-turning for gravel road upgrades on 9th road in Noordwyk, Midrand. It was attended by Executive Mayor Herman Mashaba, City speaker Vasco Da Gama and MMC for Transport Nonhlanhla Helen Makhuba on 23 July.

The City of Joburg said that around 2 000 learners use 9th Road to get to school every day, the road had muddy puddles – the tarring of the road is predicted to be completed by the end of this year. The City tweeted, “The road will only be open for parents and learners who need access to the road as two schools are situated around it.”

The road is intended to allow parents and their children to safely walk to and from school. Makhuba said she was pleased that they were finally able to deliver something to the community which they needed for some time.

Head of the Department of Infrastructure Development Siya Genu advised parents to be aware of the construction, “Safety agents and the contractors will go to both schools to induct them of safety requirements and how parents should always be aware of the construction vehicles during construction.”

This publication’s journalist Andrei van Wyk was at the event.
