‘Police will never tolerate anyone taking the law into their own hands’

IVORY PARK – Ivory Park police arrested three suspects believed to have taken part in an alleged mob justice murder in the area.

Police arrested three suspects who were allegedly involved in the murder of a man who was accused of breaking into one of their rooms in Ivory Park Ext 2.

Ivory Park Police Station spokesperson Captain Bernard Matimulane said that the assault happened around four in the morning on 10 July.

He said that, with the help of the community members, the three men, who are all in their thirties, allegedly caught the accused male (31) and assaulted him, pelting him with stones and anything they could lay their hands on, leading to his death.

Station commander Brigadier David Mbongeni Ngcobo, congratulated his officers for the speed with which they arrested the first two suspects and their tireless efforts in hunting the third one and eventually arresting him in Midrand.

Matimulane said, “With the never-ending mob justice problems in the area, Brigadier Ngcobo believes that this arrest will send a clear message to anyone inclined to take the law into their own hands.

“Police will never tolerate anyone taking the law into their own hands, regardless of what the suspect is alleged to have done. The brutal murder of any suspect through a mob should be discouraged and condemned by any law-abiding citizen at all times. Instead, we must work together to deal with crime and criminals within our communities”

Captain Matimulane added that all the three suspects will appear at the Tembisa Magistrates’ Court soon on a murder charge.

“As Ivory Park SAPS we urge community members with any information relating to the crime or any other crime to please call 08600 10111 or SMS Crime Line at 32211 and assist us in fighting for justice,” he concluded.
