Ivory Park youth celebrate

IVORY PARK – The Ivory Park Field Band parade in the streets in celebration of 16 June.

The City of Johannesburg Ivory Park Field Band commemorated the youth of 1976 at Mikateka Primary School in Ivory Park on 16 June.

The day started with a colourful street parade led by members of the field band followed by a wide range of musical and dance items as well as speeches from various stakeholders including an address from a representative of the newly formed parent steering committee.

On the same day, the Field Band Foundation (FBF) had 26 other performances and street parades across 23 projects which they run in seven other provinces in the country.

According to the youth development organisation, the foundation uses the joyful and transformative power of matching bands to prepare self-confident and healthy young people to participate constructively in society.

The Field Band Foundation spokesperson Refiloe Pico said that Youth Day is one of the key national days that they hold in high-esteem each year. “In a time where our youth faced with a myriad of challenges and hopelessness, the FBF aims to inspire, encourage, provide hope, joy, and opportunities for development,” Pico said.

“The foundation is cognisance of the fact that we can only achieve this through collaborations. With this in mind, FBF would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the City of Johannesburg municipality for their partnership in the development of the youth of Ivory Park as well as the community of Ivory Park.

“The support contributes to the achievement of the FBF impact of empowered, healthy and self-confident young people able to contribute to a vibrant society.”
