Yoga unites Glen Austin community

GLEN AUSTIN – The local community gathered at the Bodgayasthanthi Sanctuary to celebrate a yoga festival.

The Bodhgayashanthi Sanctuary brought the local community together for a yoga festival on 29 June.

The sanctuary was founded by Gurudev Balram Chetty in 2006. The festival formed part of the sanctuary’s celebration of World Yoga Day on 21 June. Student at the sanctuary Virusha Kalideen said that the Bodhgayashanthi Sanctuary serves as a place for the local community to seek physical and spiritual wellness, offering the practices of yoga and meditation.

Udhay Rathnasabapathy enjoys the sanctuary’s labyrinth.

It gives community members the opportunity to get out of the hustle and bustle of their daily lives to seek relaxation.

The festival marks the first time the sanctuary took part in the world-wide celebration in order to promote yoga. Kalideen said, “Anybody can do yoga, it doesn’t matter who you are… it has a lot of medical and health benefits that can help a lot of people.”

The day saw local community members come through for a day of serenity enjoying yoga classes, delicious food and engaging with each other.

Kalideen hopes the participants could find a good space to relax and gain inner peace. A different experience through an avenue that allows for people to engage with nature for the day was also on offer.
