MIDRAND – The learners of Christ Church College wowed in their production of High School Musical.

The Christ Church College drama department wowed their audience with a production of the classic High School Musical.

A spokesperson for the school Zeenath Sathiah said, “The head of the department of music Leon Greyling chose High School Musical because of its popularity among the pupils and thought it would be fun for the audience.

“We obtained the rights from Dalro [Dramatic, Artistic and Literary Rights Organisation], which is a multipurpose copyright organisation.”

Sathiah added, “A play of this magnitude took hours of hard work by both staff and learners. Auditions started last year for the cast and rehearsals began in January this year.”

Learners rehearsed three times per week, as well as gave up their Saturdays to create a flawless performance. All of the singing was done live and the dance scenes were choreographed by Alicia Nel Monteiro.

Head of drama and director Deborah da Cruz set out to teach the cast how to have fun with rigorous play, teamwork, discipline and she also wanted them to experience the excitement of performing in front of an audience.

Principal David Bell said, “This was a great event presented by our College learners and run by the drama and music departments of the school.

“Every year the school presents a major production, either drama or a musical. They seem to be getting better every year and the consensus from the school family was that this was the best yet.”
